Emma’s style can be called a 90's skater-girl look. She uses a lot of patterns and bright colors which gives the clothing a 90's look. She also wears a lot of collared shirts, sweater vests, vintage brand logos, high waisted straight pants, Vans, and the effortless shoe string for a belt. These might not sound very fashionable, but this look has gotten her deals with brands such as Louis Vuitton. She’s bringing the playful edgy look back into the light and making every teenage girl wish they had a closet like hers.
When doing shoots for LV, they tend to dress her in more preppy outfits but they try to keep that skater-girl look in every one of her outfits. It’s almost as if they want the formal business look with a touch of innocence. I would say Emma is probably my top fashion inspiration, I love how one day she can wear baggy jeans and the next she’s in a business suit and that I would wear both of the styles. Her versatility and brave choices make for a one of a kind look.
I recreated some of her outfits using pieces like carpenter pants, graphic tees, and Doc Martins.
Zoe may have a similar style to Emma but she has that New York street style look that looks absolutely effortless. I crave the look of a nice straight legged jean with tall black boots she always wears. Kravitz also loves a good overcoat, her style really stands out in her most recent series called High Fidelity. The show is a remake from an early 2000's film titled the same, the characters in the show tend to sport the grungy city look. It was a popular style in the early 2000's, making this a vintage look. It's weird to think that the early 2000's would be considered vintage but if you really think about it, it was 20 years ago.
Kravitz uses a lot of dark and neutral colors, and tends to use a lot of leather in her outfits. She seems to always have the model off-duty look, which is one of the most popular styles today. It can be characterized as throwing simple pieces together to create a chic street style look. She's a little on the shorter side so tends to wear a lot of heels and high rise jeans which gives her a taller look; it makes her legs look longer and slimmer. I love to use this technique a lot because I'm also pretty short so I love to give myself some height by playing with different shoes and pants.
While recreating her looks, I used a suede overcoat, black heeled boots, and a pleaded skirt.
Sophia Amoruso is the founder of the online shopping site Nasty Gal and author of Girl Boss. Her style can be described as edgy business woman. It’s honestly one of my favorite looks, to be formal and flirty. She has such a creative style that she made a clothing empire, starting out by selling items on e-bay. She shares her business and fashion wisdom on her Girl Boss accounts and website.
Amoruso loves a good jumpsuit, as you will always find her wearing the comfy and cute piece. She's also a big fan of distressed mom jeans which is a popular item for most young women right now. She loves to make business suits fun and dress them up with bright colors and patterns. I wanted to recreate a fun business look by pairing slacks and pointy flats with a graphic tee.
For recreating Amoruso's style I used her signature jumpsuit look, slacks and a graphic tee, and a mesh patterned shirt.
