My first year of college wasn't how I thought it was going to be. I always dreamed of going to a big school and making tons of friends, but in reality I went to a school I had never really thought of and spent most of my time alone. My first semester I attended Oklahoma State University, and I was homesick and depressed. I had a hard time making friends because I lived off campus and didn't get the complete dorm life experience. I also wasn't too interested in getting involved and had just assumed I wouldn't connect with a lot of people in that town. I knew within the first two weeks of class that I didn't want to stay there and I began making arrangenments to transfer.
My two best friends were attending Texas State and had invited me for a weekend to visit. I knew the second I stepped foot on campus that that was where I needed to be. I loved everything about the campus, especially the river and the square. Transferring is a really long and difficult process, but my first day at Texas State was a fresh breath of air. I also decided to live in a dorm with three other random roommates, because I had known that if I didn't, I was going to miss one of the most essential college experiences that one has.
Living in the dorm did bring me new best friends, but I wanted to meet more people and keep myself busy. I decided to do sorority recruitment with my best friend. My friend and I got into the same sorority and all of a sudden had a whole new group of girls that we were friends with. I also decided to work at the campus radio station to get some experience with my major and also meet more people. Looking around now, I know that moving here and getting involved was one of the best decisions of my life. I have worked really hard the last three years and have made the greatest friends.
